Nearer is live on Google Play.
For a long time we had an awkward answer to the most common question. "When is it coming to Android?" — "It exists, but it's in testing; write to us and we'll add you." It worked, but it meant an exchange of emails instead of one button.
Now the app is on Google Play, open to everyone, no lists and no asking.
What it means if you were waiting
Just install it. Create a pair, send your partner an invite — everything else works as it always has.
If you were one of the testers: your app updates itself, nothing to delete or reinstall. Everything you have already written — letters, answers, memories, dates — stays where it is.
What it means if you already use Nearer
The important part: your phones no longer have to match. One of you on iPhone, the other on Android, and it all works the same. Nudges arrive, the daily question is shared, letters open on their day, widgets exist on both systems.
This used to be the single most common reason a couple never started. One person installed it, the other couldn't, and that was the end of it.
Why it took so long
The short answer: we didn't want to ship "the same app, but green".
Android isn't one phone, it's thousands of them, with different screens, different battery-saving rules and very different attitudes to background notifications. An "I miss you" that arrives an hour later is worse than none at all — it promises something it doesn't deliver. So most of the time went not into the screens, but into making messages arrive on time on phones that actively try to prevent it.
Open testing was about the same thing. Thank you to everyone who took part — you found what the two of us never would have.
What's next
Both versions now move together: a new feature ships on iPhone and Android at the same time, not "sometime later".
